Care Guide
Care for Your Boots
Properly cared for, a Cuadra Piedreros boot will last decades. Here's how to keep them looking — and feeling — at their best.
Daily Care
- After each wear, wipe boots with a soft dry cloth to remove dust.
- Use boot trees (cedar preferred) to maintain shape and absorb moisture.
- Rotate boots — don't wear the same pair two days in a row.
Conditioning (every 3-6 months)
- Clean boots with a soft brush or damp cloth.
- Apply a small amount of leather conditioner with a clean cloth in circular motions.
- Let absorb for 15 minutes, then buff with a horsehair brush.
- Avoid mink oil on exotic skins — use products specifically formulated for the material.
Exotic Skin Specifics
Alligator, Caimán, Lizard, Python: Use specialized exotic leather conditioner sparingly. Never use water-based products.
Ostrich: Brush gently with horsehair to maintain quill texture. Conditioner OK.
Pirarucu Fish: Treat like delicate leather. Avoid prolonged sun exposure.
Hippo & Elephant: Robust skins, can handle standard leather conditioner.
If Your Boots Get Wet
- Pat dry with a clean towel — never rub.
- Stuff with newspaper or boot trees.
- Air dry away from heat sources (no hair dryers, no fireplaces).
- Once fully dry, apply leather conditioner.
Storage
- Store with cedar boot trees inside.
- Keep in a cool, dry place. Avoid plastic bags — leather needs to breathe.
- Use the original dust bag if available.
Resoling
A good leather sole can be resoled multiple times. We recommend a quality cobbler when the time comes — and we can recommend specialists if needed.
